Pistols and Roses

Released in 2015 by Rival, Pistols and Roses is a 1-payline slot inspired by the American Frontier retro aesthetics. The game is extremely simple, featuring Colt Revolver, Barrel, and Bullets as the high-level icons and card suits as the lower value symbols.

Visually, the game bears a strong resemblance with Liberty Bell, the father of modern day slots.

Most of the symbols are, of course, quite different. The original machine featured Diamond, Heart, Spade, Horseshoe, Star and the Liberty Bell. You will notice that the card suits are still used by a number of software developers, paying homage to the first automatized gaming device that introduced gambling to everyday life.

Pistols and Roses is not the first online slot to honor Liberty Bell but definitely comes close to capturing the spirit of the old west and remote, late 19th century towns, with small shops and saloons. Just like the majority of classic slots, Pistols and Roses offers a somewhat lower RTP (94.5%) and a medium to high volatility, which is typical for games played on a single bet way.

The bets can be adjusted manually or by using the Max Bet button to the right. This option will increase the number of coins on the line, but it will not affect the coin size, which starts at $0.01. The maximum coin value is $30, and the players can stake up to 3 coins.

Spade, Diamond, Club, and Heart are the low value icons, with a payout level that depends on the number of coins. If you decide to wager all 3 coins, the card suits will generate the following amounts:

• Heart – 30 coins
• Club – 44 coins
• Diamond – 60 coins
• Spade – 90 coins

Two Crossed Revolvers, the Barrel, and the Bullets can form both matched and mixed combinations. The payout rates are higher if all three of the icons on a paylines match, but the players can also cash out 15 to 30 coins if all three of these symbols land on the payline at the same time in the following order:

Revolvers+Barrel+Bullets = 15 coins

or

Bullets+Barrel+Revolvers = 30 coins

Wild, Wild Roses

Pistols and Roses slot also introduces Scatter 7s and Wild Roses icons. The Scatters are the only symbols that pay separately. Even if only one of the 7s land on the reels, a cash prize, although modest, will be triggered.

Rose symbol is the Wild, replacing all other icons to form a winning combo. It will also act as a multiplier, doubling the payouts. Interestingly enough, this symbol can also substitute the Scatter, which can be explained by the fact that Scatters in this slot cannot trigger any bonus features.

The great thing about this slot is that it manages to retain the classic feel and add a few surprises along the way, such as multiplying Wild and Scatters that pay individually. This may not seem like much, but classic slots rarely have any special features.

The payouts are not particularly heavy, so if you are not a fan of classic releases, this slot may not have a lot offer. On the other hand, those who appreciate the retro approach will enjoy it.
