Pig Winner
While the Chinese zodiac isn’t that popular here in the States, Pig Winner or not, it has a strong following in Asian countries. Their zodiac is characterized by twelve animals, who act as guardians for the Jade Emperor. The position of these animals on the zodiac is determined by how quickly they reached the emperor.
Each of these animals is associated with certain characteristics – and the pig is all about the money! So, to start off the year of the Pig, RTG has prepared a pig-themed video slot.

If you’re not familiar with the story, the game will no doubt look very weird. After all, it’s seemingly just a mash of various animals set to a painfully gold background image! It just goes to show that knowledge lurks around every corner, including slot reviews.
And while we like the idea of Pig Winner, we’re not big fans of the execution. As we already mentioned, the brightness of the backdrop needs to be toned down. The developer also hasn’t done much as far as animations are concerned. What we have available is incredibly basic, compared to what’s available across the pond.
It’s not all bad, however. We really like the symbol design, and not just because there are no generic icons on the playing field. Each animal from the zodiac story makes an appearance, and their value is determined by their ‘rank’ on the zodiac. Thanks to different colors, they’re all very distinct from one another.
This game uses the same layout as 2018 RTG releases. It’s simple and very easy to use. The spin button is constantly highlighted, so new players will be immediately drawn to it. And in case you need to adjust your wager or look up information, both the paytable and bet level are right there.
Pig Winner has a medium variance. It doesn’t boast an impressive progressive jackpot compared to other, more recent RTG slots. But we do consider it to be a little more engaging, thanks to as its special features. The gameplay itself is still rather basic. Despite that, we find it more fun to use in-game bonuses to get our jackpots, rather than having them magically fall from the sky.
An Oinkin’ Good Time
The game is played on a 5×3 board with 243 ways to win. This release forgoes traditional paylines, which simplifies setting the wager to your liking. Gamblers will not be able to lower the minimum stake past the limit set by the developers because of this. However, we think the advantages outweigh the drawbacks, and are happy to endorse this change.
Just because it’s a new year, doesn’t mean RTG isn’t back to their old tricks. As you’d expect, there’s no official RTP information to be found. This causes friction with us, as no matter how much we enjoy their games, we cannot give them our recommendation. With the wealth of available slots on the market, anything below 96% is unacceptable. Make sure to reach out to your casino, and find out the house edge before you play Pig Winner for real money.
Since you don’t have to adjust paylines, it’s never been easier to set your total bet to your liking! No bets per level or having to calculate how much each coin will set you back in terms of real life cash. The number you see displayed is the amount of cash you’re putting down with each spin. You can wager between $0.30 and $300 per spin, great news for both casual players and high rollers!
Pressing the Autoplay button will automatically begin spinning the reels. A total of ten autospins will be played unless a special feature is triggered. You cannot choose how many times the reels will be spun automatically.
To win, gamblers have to collect three or more identical icons in consecutive positions from left to right. Thanks to the Ways to Win system, winning combinations do not have to follow arbitrary paylines. So long as the first condition is met, your wallet will be swiftly rewarded.
The rat is the most valuable symbol, worth 750 coins for a five-of-a-kind win. It is then followed by the Ox and the tiger. The rabbit and dragon share the same value, as both are worth 80 coins for a five-of-a-kind win. The rooster, horse and snake also share the same cash prize, as do the monkey, dog and goat. Wilds do not pay anything, while Scatters are worth 200 coins for a five-of-a-kind win.
Pros & Cons
Good Bonus Fortunes
Wilds can only appear on the second and fourth reel. When part of a winning combination, they will double the awarded cash prize.
Collect three or more Scatters to win eight free spins. More Scatters and Wilds will appear on the playing field during the extra turns. You can retrigger free spins up to two times. After the eighth free spin, Wilds that are part of a win will triple the awarded prize, instead of doubling it.
