Even though a lot of people associate the new trends of commercial and overly romanticized interpretations of vampirism with the Twilight saga, the truth is, as always, somewhere in the middle.

Many consider The Vampire Diaries to actually be the first fiction novel that changed the approach to everyone’s favourite Gothic horror theme; the book was published back in the 90’s, paving the wave for the future “forbidden fruit” romance novels with horror elements.

In 2005, when the first installment of the Twilight book series changed people’s perception of vampires (or, according to many, pretty much ruined the genre for the rest of the world), The Vampire Diaries were revisited. In 2009, The Vampire Diaries TV series started airing, accumulating an impressive number of fans and industry awards.

One year before the show officially left the small screens, RealTime Gaming gave their own contribution to the new “teen horror romance” genre, launching Eternal Love video slot in 2016.
